If you are unfortunate enough to be involved in a road accident there are certain steps you should take:
Injury or Risk:
If anyone has suffered any injury at the scene of the accident, if there is a risk of fire from leaking petrol or any suspicion that the other driver may be intoxicated through drink or drugs then call the emergency services without delay. If the other driver has failed to stop after the accident or there is damage to public property, please contact the local police.
Record Information:
At the scene of the accident, you should obtain as many of the following details from the
other drivers of any other vehicles involved in your collision.
- Name, address and phone number
- Vehicle registration number, make and model
- Exact damage and the location of the damage
- Insurance company and policy number
- Name, address and phone number of any witnesses
- A plan of the accident scene and, if you have a camera with a phone,
some photographs

General:
Try to avoid speaking with the insurer of the negligent driver after the accident and you should seek assistance in responding to any correspondence you might receive.
Accident Management Programme:
If the accident was not your fault, you are entitled for your vehicle to be repaired back to its pre-accident condition and have the right to claim compensation for any loss in the value of your vehicle arising from the accident damage. You also have the right to make a claim for personal injury to compensate you for pain and suffering arising from any personal injury sustained from the accident. Our Accident Management Company can assist you with this, just call 0844 543 8610 and our team will be able to answer all of your questions.
Documentation:
Wherever possible, you should retain receipts for items of expenditure that you incur and for which you might wish to reclaim from the negligent driver. If you wish to claim for incidental expenses, for example telephone calls made and letters sent, then you need to keep a record of these events.
Do not be misled or bullied by your insurance company when you need to make a claim.
Call Us First.
The first thing you are encouraged to do by your insurers is "You have to use our approved repairer". This is misleading guidance and often results in cars being sent to non BMW experts providing poor repairs which risk the long term value of your car residual value.
Your absolute legal right is to choose your own repair centre. The choice is the customer's and no one else's.
The second thing often quoted by Insurer's is, "should you choose your own repairer, you need to get two independent quotes." Again, this is misleading to discourage you, by wasting your valuable time running around all the local accident repair centres to get two unnecessary quotes. You only need one quote and we will take care of that for you by dealing directly with your insurer. If you would prefer to get additional quotes this is no problem.
The third thing by your insurers, is that "should you choose to use your own accident repair centre, you may not get a courtesy car, and work carried out will not be guaranteed to the standard of our approved repairer, and that the insurance company will not take responsibility for inferior work of an independent repairer". Clever but not true.
We provide courtesy cars when they are needed and we guarantee our work to authorised BMW standards which is often far higher than non-approved centres. We need to preserve our own good reputation along with our sister authorised Dealership's at Stevenage, Luton and Tring.
Finally we always ask our customers to sign a satisfaction note when you collect your car. This ensures we have completed the work to your satisfaction and helps us collect the money from your insurance company.
Did you know that with non Fault Accidents, you don't even have to notify your insurer, as you will need a specialist insurance company to handle your claim in the best possible way?
Specialist Cars Bodyshop offers a complete service for all its customers. If you have an accident and it's not your fault, we will deal directly with our specialist Accident Management Company who will handle your entire claim.
A like for like courtesy car will arrive at your door; and in practically all cases if you drive a BMW you will be given a BMW to drive whilst yours is being repaired. Incidentally our accident management company will also handle any personal injury, legal claims, loss of earnings etc, if you wish.
